Dustin Burrows' reign of tyranny in the Texas House continues. As you may recall, Burrows was elected Speaker with a majority of Democrat votes and a minority of Republicans - already absurd for a Republican-controlled House. After that, he took the unprecedented move of allowing the Republican members to propose amendments to the rules governing the Texas House.
Burrows has engaged in yet another tyrannical and completely unprecedented attack against our conservative representatives.
The "Housekeeping Resolution" is a resolution that the House always passes before the rules. As the name suggests, it lays out procedures for the business of the House, including everything from parking procedures to staffing policies, to office budgets for the Representatives. In an entirely unprecedented move, Dustin Burrows and Charlie Geren have simply refused to pass a Housekeeping Resolution for this session, giving the Burrows/Phelan team unilateral power to determine the operating procedures of the House, including office budgets and staffing procedures. The Texas House is officially a dictatorship.
There is hope. Conservative representative J.M. Lozano has proposed his own version of the Housekeeping Resolution, which, apart from prescribing standard practices in the House, would also ban men from women's bathrooms in the House, prevent representatives from being drunk on the House floor, and prevent members from hiring illegal aliens in their offices.
The conservative representatives are working with Lozano to help pass this vital resolution. Please call your representatives and tell them that you want them to pass Lozano's House Resolution 144. The passage of this resolution would be a serious blow to Burrows' dictatorial regime and would protect the rights of the conservative representatives as well as their constituents.
