Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL) became the second woman to represent Florida in the U.S. Senate when she was sworn in last week. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, she had the opportunity to cast a vote in favor of Florida's former attorney general Pam Bondi, who President Trump nominated to be the next U.S. attorney general.

Moody shared a letter that Bondi had left her when she succeeded her as Florida's top law enforcement officer.

The Laken Riley Act officially became law this week -- the first President Trump signed in his second term. Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) authored the legislation, which passed on a bipartisan basis in both the House and Senate.

The bill requires the detention of any illegal immigrant charged with theft or burglary.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) successfully included Sarah's Law as an amendment to the Laken Riley Act. Her bill honors Sarah Root, an Iowan who was killed on the night of her college graduation by an illegal immigrant who was driving while intoxicated. Before her family had even laid her to rest, a loophole in the law allowed her killer to be released and escape justice for his crime. Sarah's Law will help ensure this never happens again.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY-21) is one step closer to becoming the next ambassador to the United Nations.

Stefanik's nomination advanced through the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on a bipartisan basis. The chairman of the committee, Sen. James Risch (R-ID), urged the full Senate to take up her nomination quickly, calling it an "urgent national security priority."
