Hello from the State Capitol,
This week has brought an unprecedented situation to our state’s legislative process. Following the Supreme Court’s ruling that a quorum of 68 members is required, we are currently unable to proceed with legislative sessions. As a result, we are unable to pass bills or address key issues affecting the people of Minnesota.
The longer the House Democrats refuse to return to work, the closer we come to the risk of not passing a state budget by the June 30th deadline. At present, the legislature is effectively at a standstill, and Minnesota is facing what can only be described as a legislative shutdown. This disruption is the direct result of the decision by House Democrats to take the matter to the Supreme Court to prevent us from carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to us by Minnesotans.
By not participating in the legislative process, House Democrats are not only disregarding their own constituents but also impeding the work of the entire state. The House Republicans have consistently shown up to work in St. Paul, prepared and ready to fulfill our duties. Unfortunately, this Democrat shutdown is preventing the Minnesota House of Representatives from moving forward with essential legislative business.
I have been in St. Paul every day and will continue to be. I was elected to represent district 22A, and I will continue to do so by showing up.
