Dear friend,
The act of service is not a duty I take lightly.
Thirteen years ago in December, I lost my father. Five years later, I took an oath to serve as the Mayor of Richmond. At 35 years of age, I became Richmond's youngest elected mayor. Both events profoundly changed my life, and each winter I think about what lies ahead.
I have changed in ways I never anticipated, and for that, I am deeply grateful. The journey has shaped me just as much as my team and I worked to shape a new, bright future for Richmond—a city with more jobs, more homes, and less poverty and crime.
Richmond will always hold a special place in my heart and serving as Mayor was the great honor of my life so far. I am so proud of the progress that was made, and I am confident that the best is yet to come. For Richmond, yes, but also for the entirety of our great Commonwealth. I hope to continue my public service as Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. I believe that my experience and knowledge of government in our capital put me in a strong position to deliver for the people of Virginia.
As Virginia’s next Lieutenant Governor, I look forward to doing everything I can to keep pushing for progress, and to help ensure that our best days are ahead of us.
