John,
A military helicopter just collided with a passenger plane near Washington
DC. We're not saying it is Trump and Musk's fault, but:
1. the accident was 9 days after Trump took office and was the deadliest
US plane accident in 24 years [there were no commercial airline
crashes during the Biden administration]
2. it comes 7 days after the administration fired an entire key aviation
security advisory group and froze the budget for hiring that would
give relief to exhausted air traffic controllers
3. it comes 9 days after Elon Musk -- an unelected shadow figure --
forced the head of aviation safety to step down (he has not been
replaced)
4. it comes 4 days after an abusive, alcoholic, unqualified Fox News host
got put in charge of the country's military.
Even if the accident would have happened anyway -- air traffic controllers
need to be properly hired, paid, and supported, and they haven't been for
a long time -- it's a stark reminder of the danger of tearing down the
functions of government that we take for granted.
That's why it’s critical to fight Trump every step of the way,
domestically and internationally, to ensure every single thing they try to
do is as difficult as possible. And in this case, the ask is clear: bring
back the fired aviation safety chief who kept things safe, and fire Elon
Musk, who is already putting everyone in danger --

The tragedy here is the loss of life. It always is. And it’s always
ordinary people who pay for the corrupt inaction of Republican politicians
(see: gun violence). Now the worst of them are in charge of the whole
government and tragedy is sure to become normalcy.
The actual blame is impossible to place accurately, but there must at
least be some measure of accountability. Musk forced the head of the
Federal Aviation Authority to resign barely a week ago. Why? He accused
him of ‘harassing’ SpaceX, the taxpayer-dollar-guzzling space project that
is another of Elon’s ego projects.
Let’s restate: Musk forced the main regulator of one of his major projects
to resign, despite holding no office in the government. One week later,
the deadliest commercial air disaster in the US in decades.
While Democratic leadership sits on its hands, Republicans are [ [link removed] ]ALREADY
out in the media trying to blame the crash on…you guessed it…diversity
hiring.
Are we going to let them set the narrative? Again? It’s up to us, people
everywhere, to put a story out there other than what Republic spin doctors
want – and to make demands. Fire Elon Musk. Bring back the head of
aviation safety. This isn’t hard.
