Dear John,

Today marks five years since the United Kingdom left the European Union.

Five years on, our economy is stagnant as a result of the Conservatives’
botched deal with Europe, and Donald Trump has returned to the White House,
threatening a global trade war.

These challenges can only be met by bold, ambitious actions - and only the
Liberal Democrats have the answer.

If the government is serious about economic growth, it must fix our broken
relationship with Europe.

Today I’ve called on the Labour Government to drop its red line on a UK-EU
Customs Union to strengthen our economy and our hand in dealing with Trump

A new Customs Union would be the single biggest lever ministers could pull to
turbocharge our economy, removing damaging trade barriers and cutting expensive
red tape.

And our ambitions on Europe go much further.

I’ve challenged the Prime Minister to create a Youth Mobility Scheme with the
EU, so young people can expand their horizons with the ability to live and work
across the continent.

And our Customs Union proposal will help to deliver on the roadmap we have
already set out to fix our broken relationship – renewing the ties of trust and
friendship so that we can apply to join the Single Market when the time is
right and one day get the UK back in the heart of Europe.

But, John, only the Liberal Democrats are championing this bold vision.

If you share our internationalist beliefs, we need your support so the
outward-looking, prosperous Britain we all want to see can become a reality.
