Across the US, children are being forced to work long hours in dangerous conditions. Many are afraid to speak up and unaware that help is available. Under previous laws, situations like these might not have been flagged as abuse, leaving kids without access to vital support. Now, thanks to a change in guidance from the federal government, states are required to recognize and respond to labor trafficking in the same way they do other forms of child abuse.

This guidance is more than just a policy update—it strengthens the safety net for victims. Empowering professionals to take action, it ensures children impacted by labor trafficking can get the protection and care they need to rebuild their lives.

Many people have been advocating for this change for years. We’re thrilled to see the Office on Trafficking in Persons and the Administration for Children and Families take a critical step forward in protecting children from trafficking.

This step reminds us how far we’ve come and how far we can go together. With every positive change, we move closer to a future where no child is trafficked or exploited.

Thank you for caring and being a part of this work. Every voice, every effort, and every step forward matters.
