In case you missed it, Rob filed a lawsuit against President Trump’s unlawful federal funding freeze (see Rob’s original message below). This proposed widespread pause in federal aid is a reckless and unconstitutional move that has created chaos and confusion among families, schools, organizations, and states across the country. A court has temporarily blocked the order, but the Trump administration insists it will keep fighting. |
Breaking news: I’m suing the Trump administration (again).
We’re just one week into Trump’s second presidency and he’s already trampling on the Constitution. This time, his administration issued a memo threatening to freeze up to $3 trillion in federal assistance effective at 2pm PT / 5pm ET today, which would mean a pause in funding for disaster recovery, public health, education, public safety programs, and more.
Just like Trump’s attempt to end birthright citizenship, this is a blatantly unconstitutional act and a massive power grab, violating the separation of powers between the executive branch and Congress.
This broad funding freeze recklessly disregards the health, well-being, and public safety of the people this administration is supposed to serve. In less than 24 hours, this memo has thrown state programs into chaos and created uncertainty around their administration.
I will not stand by while the President attempts to disrupt vital programs that feed our kids, provide medical care to our families, support housing and education in our communities, and provide necessary funding for Southern California to recover from the recent wildfires.
That’s why I joined New York Attorney General Leticia James in leading a coalition of 23 attorneys general in filing a lawsuit to block this harmful and unlawful freeze immediately.
In solidarity,
Rob
