Statement from Councilmember Trayon White on the Tragic Collision of American Eagle Flight 5342 and Army Helicopter
I share the heartbreak of the community following the tragic collision between American Eagle Flight 5342 and a U.S. Army helicopter, claiming 67 lives. I send my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones who were lost in this devastating event.
Our focus must be on honoring those lost and supporting their families. While questions about responsibility and cause will be answered in time, I am confident that our federal government will thoroughly investigate this tragedy to ensure this does not happen again.
I sincerely thank the first responders and emergency teams for their swift and dedicated efforts. Their action and dedication in the face of tragedy are commendable.
For those seeking information, please call 800-679-8215 or visit news.aa.com. American Airlines has teams on-site assisting families.
The NTSB will lead the investigation, and Washington National Airport is now open. Travelers should check with their airline before heading to the airport.
We stand with the grieving families and keep them in our prayers.
