Progressive Candidates
This month People For the American Way announced the relaunch of its Next
Up Victory Fund (Next Up), as part of a 100-day sprint to respond to the
new political environment. Next Up helps young progressive candidates, 40
and under, win key local and state races around the country, flip state
legislatures, and build a pipeline of progressive leaders. We will invest
in this program over the next four years as part of our ongoing efforts to
resist authoritarianism and counter ultra-conservative and harmful MAGA
policies under the Trump administration.
Through financial support, media events, endorsements, and connections to
People For activists, Next Up will nurture, inspire, and help elect young
progressive candidates running for public offices ranging from school
boards to state representatives and governors.

The Trump administration and the Republican-controlled Congress have
wasted no time in working to roll back our rights and attack our freedoms.
From a flurry of over three dozen Executive Orders that aim to remake our
government to protect the interests of Trump and the wealthiest Americans,
to Congress advancing attacks on immigrants and the transgender community,
to the Senate moving forward on Trump’s most dangerous nominees, the
landscape is bleak. We can and must resist this agenda.
But we’re never powerless in the face of these threats. In fact, when
faced with the outrage over the Trump Administration’s decision to freeze
vital federal funding, the administration reversed course – freeing up
crucial resources that would have otherwise potentially undermined
national security, harmed families, and stripped funding from
firefighters, police, hungry children, sick veterans, and low-income
housing recipients.
When we join together, we can fight back against this administration,
unite for our values, and win.

Trump is moving full speed ahead with his plan to turn the Justice
Department and FBI into political weapons – and the Senate could confirm
his handpicked lapdogs any day now.
Pam Bondi, Trump’s Attorney General pick, has spent years defending him,
spreading election lies, and pushing his extremist agenda. As Florida AG,
she attacked LGBTQ+ rights, the ACA, and church-state separation – while
protecting corporate fraudsters and taking campaign cash from the loan
industry. Now, Trump wants her running the Justice Department.

And that’s not all. Kash Patel, Trump’s pick for FBI Director, is another
dangerous nominee – chosen not for experience, but for his unshakable
loyalty to Trump. Patel has been at the center of Trump’s efforts to
weaponize government against political enemies. If confirmed, he’ll be in
prime position to carry out Trump’s campaign of retribution.

Representatives has also passed H.R. 28 – a bill that seeks to deny
transgender athletes the ability to play on sports teams that align with
