Did you know that access to contraception is not guaranteed in VA?
In May 2023, Governor Youngkin vetoed the Right to Contraception Act. This Act would have protected the right of people to use and doctors to prescribe contraception, including birth control pills, IUDs, emergency contraceptives, and more.
However, the fight is far from over: Delegate Marcia “Cia” Price of Newport News and Senator Ghazala Hashmi of Chesterfield reintroduced the Act. As Del. Price has stated, “delegates, senators and the governor will have another chance to show you once again where they stand on protecting your right to contraception.”
And that is exactly what is happening: This week, Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, alongside VA Senate Republicans, worked desperately to BLOCK this legislation from progressing. It passed the Senate by only a vote of 21-18 after a subsequent vote was called.
This bill *just barely* has made it halfway through the legislative process – passing through the House and Senate – and is making its way to crossover. Help us continue to fight for reproductive freedom in VA by donating $25 or more today →

Lieutenant Governor Earle-Sears’s initial tie-breaking “no” vote to block access to contraception goes to show just how far Republicans are willing to go to strip away our rights. On top of that, Governor Youngkin vetoed this bill once, and he will likely do it again. And with Trump now in the Oval Office, who has stated that he is open to allowing states to restrict access to birth control, our rights are more in danger than ever before.
But the good news is that there is an election coming up in NOVEMBER where we will be able to hold the people who voted against the right to contraception in Virginia accountable and replace them with representatives who will protect our rights, from Delegate to Governor. But we’ll need your help.
We have the power to vote all anti-choice legislators OUT in November. Help us prepare to protect all reproductive freedom, including access to contraception, by pitching in $25 or more today.
