This week, the White House Office of Management and Budget issued a pause on all federal grants, loans and financial assistance programs. We understand the chilling effect this memo has had on our Catholic Charities network (and other organizations) and the uncertainty that many programs now face. Please read the statement of CCUSA President and CEO Kerry Alys Robinson in response to the pause.
Also, note that a federal judge in Washington, DC, temporarily ordered the pause to be lifted on "open funds" or funds that were already slated to be disbursed until at least Monday, February 3, 2025, when a full hearing will occur as to whether the pause is permissible under federal administrative procedure laws and the First Amendment.
While we continue to monitor this issue and work to gain more clarity, we know that Congress has already started hearing from their constituents about the potential consequences of this directive to federal agencies. It is imperative that members of Congress, and particularly at their district offices, also hear from you!
