Dear Neighbors,

On Friday, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that a quorum in the House of Representatives is 68, a majority of the total number of seats. The Minnesota House of Representatives is composed of 134 seats. Therefore, in order to transact the official work of the House, a majority of Minnesotans must be represented before official action must be taken. This ruling means that every action taken by the GOP members since seizing the House on January 14, 2025 is invalid.

I, along with my DFL colleagues, want to be at the Capitol.  We are each working hard in our districts, meeting with our neighbors and communities, and getting bills lined up to go.  However, our GOP members MUST honor the voters of Minnesota and seat Rep. Tabke, who is the Shakopee voter’s choice to represent 54A. The court has ruled Tabke’s win stands.

Minnesota is the North Star State. We value our democracy and the democratic process. The co-governing offer on the table by the DFL is fair and respects the voters of Minnesota. In the 2024 election, voters sent an equal number of DFL and GOP members to the House -- our proposal reflects that.

It is our obligation to work together in an equal co-governing agreement to serve all of our communities. I encourage the GOP leadership to put aside their loss in 54B, honor the voters, and negotiate in earnest a bipartisan agreement.

Respect Results

In the meantime, I've been focusing my energy on serving our district directly. Here's a look at what I've been working on:

I appreciated meeting with Plymouth City Councilmember Gregor about how we can continue our strong state and city partnership, delivering the best outcomes in infrastructure, public safety, environment, and affordable housing for our community.

Thank you Rep. Dan Wolgamott and House Staff Sean Herring for a productive meeting discussing our priorities for a strong higher education system for Plymouth area students.

I had a productive meeting with the City of Plymouth and the League of Minnesota Cities about how we can continue our good work together building a brighter future for all residents in our area.

It was a great visit with neighbors at Birke Apartments! They're advocating to ensure disability services are equitably allocated throughout residential settings in Minnesota. Everyone deserves to live with dignity in their own home and I'll continue to work on these priorities for all Plymouth and Medicine Lake residents.

I appreciated a robust discussion with a Plymouth resident on ways we can strengthen access to STEM education in our area schools.

Since its inception in 1984, the Municipal Legislative Commission has been a strong partner to the legislature. It was wonderful to connect with them on session priorities around housing, public safety, and infrastructure and economic development.
