Late yesterday, the Trump administration announced an across-the-board freeze of federal funding that will impact millions of households and communities. One analysis states:1
“as written the pause could affect a big swath of programs that aid lower-income households, including: Medicaid; school breakfast and lunch programs; Section 8 rental assistance; Title I education grants; Temporary Assistance for Needy Families; state grants for child care; Head Start; and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.”
And that was just yesterday.
On Sunday, the day before tax season officially began, at a speech in Las Vegas Trump threatened to fire thousands of IRS agents (or send them to the border to carry out his mass deportation machine)2, which would undermine the IRS’s ability to collect billions of dollars in taxes owed by the ultra-wealthy. He’s also seeking to cut the taxes of the rich and corporations even further―paid for by cutting critical services for low-income and vulnerable communities.
This is exactly what a billionaire-controlled government looks like: more tax cuts for the rich and fewer services for everyone else.

In response to the administration’s freeze of a giant swath of federal funding, House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro and Senate Appropriations Committee Vice Chair Patty Murray wrote to the Office of Management and Budget:3
“we write with extreme alarm about the Administration’s efforts to undermine Congress’s power of the purse, threaten our national security, and deny resources for states, localities, American families, and businesses … The scope of what you are ordering is breathtaking, unprecedented, and will have devastating consequences across the country.”
But it’s not just this illegal freeze in funding. Trump and his minions in Congress are seeking to cut trillions of dollars from critical programs and services to pay towards their $5.5 trillion tax scam. But they have a big problem: The American people like a well-functioning government, from an IRS that is able to answer phone calls and process tax returns on time to a well-functioning Social Security Administration to help retirees, people with disabilities, and surviving spouses claim their earned benefits. They want affordable health care and protection from consumer rip-offs.
