Friday night, timed perhaps to let the news fade over the weekend, Senate Republicans did Donald Trump’s bidding and put Fox News weekend host Pete Hegseth in charge of national security. Hegseth is totally unqualified, and has been credibly accused of sexual assault, but of course none of that matters to MAGA. All that matters is his loyalty to one man.
There is no better example of the competency crisis, and the moral crisis, facing American politics right now. I don’t care what anyone says – this will never be normal. And it will never not be terrifying.
We have to stay engaged. We have to keep paying attention, and doing everything we can to fight back. This year, that starts right here in Viginia – our election will be the national bellwether, and our best chance to stop MAGA’s momentum in its tracks.
