U.S. Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) told the Detroit News today that he will not seek re-election next year.
The momentum we have to make America great again is real. There is no other way to interpret his decision.
Peters led Senate Democrats’ national campaign committee during the past two elections, so he knows better than anyone that the odds of winning re-election in this environment are dicey.
“Gary Peters is reading the room. After spending years ignoring illegal immigration and destroying his state’s auto industry, Michigan is better off without him,” said Senator Tim Scott (R-SC).
This is a big loss for the Democrats politically. Peters had the advantage of incumbency. Now the race is wide open, giving Republicans a great opportunity to pick up a seat in a state President Trump last year.
Please renew your support for the Senate Conservatives Fund so we can elect strong conservatives in Michigan and across the nation. [ [link removed] ]
We can’t let this momentum slip away. It’s time to step on the gas and work harder than ever to build a conservative Senate and create a lasting legacy of freedom and opportunity in our country.
The Senate is the chokepoint that could stop us from turning President Trump’s temporary executive actions into permanent legislative victories.
We must take immediate action to defend the conservatives in the Senate today and to elect new ones for tomorrow.
Thank you for being on our team. We’re grateful for your support.
