FRC Provides Concrete Supports

The Calhoun County Help Me Grow Family Resource Center [ [link removed] ] connected with a family living with friends. The team provided concrete support for food, clothing, bedding, and a gift certificate to the laundromat. These items helped them continue saving for a security deposit on an apartment.

Last year's Pam Posthumus Signature Auction raised $33,120 for just these specific items needed in many of the family resource centers. For everyone who raised their paddle and supported the auction last year, *you* also helped this family.

*From the Executive Director*

It's always exciting to welcome a new year! Children Trust Michigan had a standout year in 2024. From the in-person conference with our Prevention Partners, new standards for measuring results and generous people who attended our auction or made charitable gifts throughout the year - it has been an amazing year! *Read More Here [ [link removed] ]*

The CTM team continues to work hard to identify each individual's strengths through CliftonStrengths [ [link removed] ]. It's been eye-opening for me and my colleagues and helps us better understand how we function as a team. We all share a deep commitment to our mission, but sometimes we play different roles in carrying out this work to build strong, resilient families who can provide children with the bright future they deserve. When we know ourselves and our strengths, we can better help our partners and the people we serve. I see a bright year in 2025 and I'm grateful all of you will be a part of it!

Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2025!

Strong Partnerships = Strong Families
Child Abuse Prevention Month Save the Date

Planning for Child Abuse Prevention Month in April [ [link removed] ] is in full swing.

In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA) introduced the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign. PCAA's and our vision is for a world where all children grow up happy, healthy and prepared to succeed in supportive families and communities. This entire month is a chance to showcase prevention programming across the state.

CTM Executive Director Suzanne Greenberg will kick off *Wear Blue Day* with a Facebook video message. Everyone is encouraged to share photos on social media using the hashtag #MIWearsBlue.

CTM will host several dynamic speakers and entertainment at 10 a.m. on April 15 at the Michigan State Capitol Building lawn and steps for *CAP Awareness Day*. Prevention Partners also are invited to join us for lunch and other learning activities for the afternoon.

The CAP Month Toolkit is a great resource for ideas, suggestions and resources to plan events in your community. We are grateful for all efforts to raise awareness about prevention programs.

Policy Changes When Mindsets Change

How issues are framed affects how people think and act. That was the message Dr. Nat Kendall-Taylor shared at the January Quarterly Network meeting with Prevention Partners.

More than 65 people attended the online forum to learn more about ways to frame the prevention work CTM and its network of partners do to make it more effective and involve more people.

"Mindsets matter because they can change over time," he said. "When they do, so do policies."

For prevention efforts, techniques such as telling stories, using metaphors and making data relevant all combine to build engagement with key audiences. To learn more about Dr. Kendall-Taylor and see a similar presentation, visit his TED Talk on YouTube [ [link removed] ].
