Notes from the Office of Speaker Mike Johnson

Hello, friends! Thank you for subscribing to the Office of Speaker Johnson's newsletter highlighting what's happening on Capitol Hill and in Louisiana's 4th Congressional District.

PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION

On Monday, January 20th, Speaker Johnson, members of the U.S. House and Senate, U.S. Supreme Court Justices, and the incoming Presidential cabinet joined in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol to witness the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the 50th Vice President of the United States, J.D. Vance.

In a statement after the inauguration, Speaker Johnson shared: “America’s Golden Age has arrived...From coast to coast, Americans are celebrating because they finally have a government that will be accountable to its people — one that defends liberty, fosters opportunity, and inspires the world. As we begin this new chapter of our national story, we move forward with confidence and renewed hope that America’s best days are ahead."

As Speaker Johnson was heading to the White House to meet with President Trump and Vice President Vance on Tuesday, he captured a video of VP Vance’s first time walking into the Oval Office. Click the image below to watch the video.

IN THE HOUSE

On Wednesday, Speaker Johnson and House Republicans announced a new select subcommittee for the 119th Congress to continue the investigation of the events on January 6, 2021. In a statement, Speaker Johnson said: "We are establishing this Select Subcommittee to continue our efforts to uncover the full truth that is owed to the American people.”

House Republicans passed the Born Alive Survivors Act to ensure children who survived an abortion or attempted abortion receive proper medical care. This legislation is a matter of common sense and human dignity; basic morality demands that a doctor provide medical care to a child born alive during an attempted abortion, just as they would for any child born prematurely. Tragically, all but one House Democrat opposed the bill, voted for infanticide, and opted to deny medical care to crying newborns on operating tables struggling to live.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

Speaker Johnson officially signed the Laken Riley Act, which Senate Republicans passed last week and House Republicans unanimously passed earlier this month. It will now head to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law.

This week alone, President Trump has done more for the American people's safety and our nation's sovereignty than former President Biden did in four years. President Trump is ensuring criminal illegal aliens are removed from and will never be allowed back in the United States.

On Friday, Speaker Johnson addressed over 100,000 attendees at the 52nd annual March for Life on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. For more than five decades, Americans from across the country have gathered to celebrate life and advocate for every individual's right to it. In his remarks, Speaker Johnson expressed hope for a future in which our nation fosters a culture of life and upholds the sanctity of every human being. Click the image below to watch his remarks.
