Indiana GOP Applauds Braun’s Commitment To School Choice

INDIANAPOLIS (January 27, 2025) – The Indiana Republican Party released the
following statement regarding the School Choice Week on January 27, 2025.

"With National School Choice Week upon us, the Indiana Republican Party
commends Governor Mike Braun on his proposal to expand school choice to all
students, giving every family the opportunity to pursue the best education for
their child.

Governor Braun is also working to support our teachers through increased pay,
ensuring Indiana can recruit and retain qualified and committed educators.

As The Indianapolis Star

reports:

'Braun proposes increasing K-12 spending by 2% in each year of the budget,
which translates to an increase of $546 million over the biennium. That's in
addition to the yet-undisclosed cost of expanding the school choice voucher
program to be universal, regardless of income … Lisa Hershman, Braun's new
secretary of management and budget, said Braun also intends to support raising
the minimum teacher salary in Indiana from $40,000 to $45,000. Sen. Linda
Rogers, R-Granger, has a bill for this.' (Indianapolis Star

“As the first Governor to begin his political career on the school board, Mike
Braun knows the importance of school choice, and his decision to expand these
programs to all families promises a better future for our children,” said
Indiana Republican Party Chairwoman Erin Lucas. “And that’s not all, Governor
Braun is delivering on his promises to our hardworking teachers by leading the
effort to increase pay, and fighting to improve our education system so
Hoosiers are ready for the workforce or higher education upon graduating from
high school.”
