Dear friends and neighbors,

I hope you were able to stay warm through the cold snap the last week. The forecast for this coming week looks very nice as each day continues to get longer! At the MN Capital, we are entering the third week of the legislative session.

President Trump Inaugurated as the 47th President!

President Trump officially took office as the 47th President one week ago today. Pres. Trump’s inaugural speech was incredibly uplifting prioritizing border security, energy policy reform, American exceptionalism, and much, much more. President Trump stated he is excited to lead our great nation into a "Golden Age" and Make America Great Again. Pres. Trump explained his policies will focus on putting Americans first, whether foreign or domestic policies, and made clear he is going to work to improve the quality-of-life of hardworking Americans!

Governor Walz Raises Taxes, again.

Last week Gov. Walz released his proposal to fund state government for the next two years. As expected, Gov. Walz prioritized government instead of families by proposing increased funding for his executive agencies, including new tax increases. Blowing through an $18 billion dollar surplus last cycle (which included millions lost on scams and fraudulent non-profits) wasn't enough. Gov. Walz wants to take even more of your money to continue funding his bureaucratic state. Senate Republicans will continue working hard to stop Gov. Walz and Democrats from their tax-and-spend splurge.

House Democrats Continue to Play Hooky

Regardless of party affiliation, legislators are elected to serve their constituents, but Democrats in the House continue not showing up for work. Democrats are absent because for them, the role of holding public office is not about serving, but instead about accumulating and wielding power at ALL costs. Despite Democrat actions, Republicans in the House have pressed forward with their constitutional responsibility of servant leadership by actively showing up every day.

Transvestite protesters interrupted the House Public Safety Committee last week using blowhorns to scream vile profanities in the faces of Republican legislators.

Supreme Court Rules on Quorum Case in House

Late Friday afternoon last week, the 100% Democrat appointed Minnesota Supreme Court issued a unanimous ruling in favor of House Democrats in their case against House Republicans. The Court declared the number needed for a quorum is based on the total number of possible seats in the body (in the case of the House, 134 seats) and not the number of elected members. Thus, when there is a vacancy for any reason (e.g., death, resignation, or disqualification due to cheating) and the number of elected members drops from 134 to 133, there will still need to be a logic-defying 68 votes to establish quorum.

The Supreme Court’s ruling violates the plain reading of the text and is very short sighted. Whether the Legislative Branch, Executive Branch, or Judicial Branch, Democrats are continuously pushing the boundaries to accumulate power. Never-the-less, I’m among the Republicans that will continue upholding constitutional values such as Separation of Powers, Due Process, and individual liberty.
