John,
As we head into the second week of the Trump administration, concerns surrounding Trump’s promised mass deportations are reaching a fever pitch.
Less than a day after taking office, Trump rescinded a longstanding policy that prevented federal immigration enforcement from making arrests at schools and other sensitive locations, like hospitals and houses of worship
Taking advantage of this, a teacher in Texas made headlines yesterday by urging ICE to raid his school, claiming that many of his students “don’t even speak English.”

In the event of a school shooter I would sooner die protecting my students than give a shooter the chance to fire upon my classrooms.
In the same vein, I believe it is our duty and responsibility as teachers to do everything in our power to protect our students from surveillance, searches, and immigration arrests at schools.
As teachers, we are the front lines of the resistance to Trump's mass deportations.
I am a public school teacher, Dad, and Democrat running for Congress in the Special Election for Florida’s 6th Congressional District—and with Republicans holding the smallest House Majority since 1932, if we win in April, we paralyze the GOP’s ability to pass its anti-immigrant legislative agenda.
