As a Quaker organization, we recognize the moral teachings of many religious traditions call us to love our neighbors and advocate for those who do not have the power to do so.
A core tenet of faith is caring about the suffering of others. Once again, Congress, expects marginalized people to bear the brunt of “fiscal responsibility” while the wealthiest Americans and corporations get special tax breaks.
And even worse – additional money stripped from health care programs like Medicaid and food assistance programs like SNAP would be used to send the military to our borders, and to enforce ethically-questionable immigration policies.
It’s one thing to argue about the implications of government spending, it’s another to take away the social safety nets that help the most vulnerable members of our communities. We cannot let this budget reconciliation package come to pass.
Sign our petition if you agree that Congress should not cut the social safety nets to pay for special tax cuts for the wealthy and buy more weapons for war.
