Welcome to our Team Tillis newsletter, where we discuss what Thom has been up to from the campaign trail to Capitol Hill, and everything in between! |
| | Dear Friend, What a week!
President Trump is officially the 47th president of the United States—and he has already made it clear that his administration will be a steadfast ally to the people of North Carolina.
In his first trip outside Washington, D.C. as president, he visited Asheville to pledge rapid reconstruction for the communities in Western North Carolina devastated by Hurricane Helene. President Trump’s commitment to helping families rebuild, restore their properties, and return to warm, stable homes is a welcome relief compared to the last administration.
President Trump also signed an executive order directing the Department of Interior to pursue all options to finally grant the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina full federal recognition. Senator Tillis will continue to work with President Trump and the North Carolina Congressional Delegation in a bipartisan, bicameral manner to pass the Lumbee Fairness Act to ensure the Lumbee Tribe’s federal recognition is secure and free from legal obstacles.
Thom will continue to work with the Trump administration to deliver results for North Carolinians.

Confirmations: President Trump’s Cabinet
|
The Trump administration hit the ground running, rolling out executive actions and orders on Day One, but we must fill several critical roles to help enact the America First agenda. Thom voted Friday to confirm Pete Hegseth—and continues to lead the charge to confirm President Trump’s powerhouse cabinet picks. It looks like we’re finally making solid progress.
Confirmed this week: ☑️ Secretary of State Marco Rubio ☑️ Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ☑️ Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem ☑️ CIA Director John Ratcliffe
Up Next: Pam Bondi for Attorney General, Scott Bessent for Treasury Secretary, and Kash Patel for FBI Director. These leaders will be instrumental in securing our border, strengthening our military, and restoring integrity at the highest levels of the federal government. The stakes are high—but Thom is working overtime to ensure these confirmations go off without a hitch.

Promises Kept: Securing The Southern Border
|
President Trump wasted no time signing executive orders to secure the southern border and stop the flow of illegal migrants flooding into our country. He reinstated immigration policies that were effective in securing our borders and protecting American citizens during his first term, paving the way for us to regain control of this disastrous situation. But that’s not all. President Trump also: - Declared a national emergency at the southern border to increase military presence;
- Designated cartels and international gangs as foreign terrorist organizations;
- Suspended the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, directing officials to launch a review of whether restarting refugee admissions is in America’s best interest.
As Thom put it, “It’s time to turn the page on the failures of the Biden administration that caused record levels of illegal immigration and record profits for narcoterrorist groups.”

Legislative Highlights: Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act
|
This week, Thom worked alongside several other senators to introduce the Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act, legislation that would fight destructive sanctuary policies and provide justice for those who are harmed when sanctuary cities put public safety in danger.
For far too long, we have watched cities in North Carolina and across the country ignore the law and release dangerous criminals back into communities, putting innocent people at risk. Now, it’s time for Congress to step in and hold these sanctuary cities accountable. Thom is committed to working alongside President Trump to keep our southern border secure and end illegal immigration. For too long, it’s clear that liberal politicians want to put political ideology ahead of the safety of their constituents.
