As a former Navy officer and Under Secretary of Defense, I have a lot to say about Trump’s pick for Secretary of Defense.
John, Pete Hegseth’s nomination is an insult to the brave people serving our nation.
These are just some of his glaring red flags:
🚩 Hegseth has said that women shouldn’t be in combat roles and has actively spoken out against diversity and inclusion efforts at the Pentagon.
🚩 His own mother once called him an “abuser of women”—seriously!
đźš© He was ousted from a veterans charity due to allegations of misconduct, including: financial mismanagement, sexual impropriety, sexist behavior, and repeatedly being intoxicated on the job.
🚩 He’s been charged with sexual assault and was accused of covering it up with a hush money settlement.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, John. Now more than ever, our military personnel are facing unprecedented challenges from political extremists—Hegseth is as extreme as they come and would only exacerbate these issues.
Hegseth is the most unqualified nominee for Defense Secretary in recent history, and the American people deserve better.
In Congress, I will continue to oppose unqualified nominees like Hegseth and work every day to keep our country safe and secure. I hope you’ll stand with me, John.
