President's Message Advocating for equity has been the heart and soul of my nursing practice, empowering me to uphold a strong moral and ethical compass in my work. As a school nurse administrator and through my involvement with NASN, I have broadened my mission to champion equity for school nurses and the school nursing practice. Access to a school nurse is a health equity issue. For many students, the school nurse may serve as their only regular healthcare provider, keeping them healthy, safe, and ready to learn so that they can grow into healthy and productive adults. The NASN President’s Endowment Challenge, “Advocating for Equity,” is a vital fundraising initiative for the NASN Endowment Fund and an inspiring call to action. This fund is crucial for supporting essential research, awards, grants, and scholarships to enhance school nursing practice and the healthcare services we deliver in our schools. Now is the time to raise your voice in the critical mission to advocate for equity. Kate King, DNP, MS, RN, LSN NASN President Better Health. Public Awareness of and Support for Funding of School Nurses NASN, seeing pressing concerns facing school health, including school nurse workforce issues, the need for sustainable funding, and a lack of robust data to demonstrate the value of school nurses, commissioned a national poll to determine public awareness of and support for funding school nurses in U.S. schools. The NASN School Nurse article Public Perceptions of School Nurses: Results From a Recent Public Opinion Poll details survey results and highlights key takeaways arming school nurses, school nurse leaders, and state/national associations with critically important data to advocate for school nurses.
