Join the High Fivers Club!

"What's the High Fivers Club", you ask? It started with a simple idea: There are nearly 1.2 million registered Democrats in Colorado -- what if every single one of them gave just $5 a month to the Colorado Democratic Party (CDP)?

Answer: The CDP would be the best-funded state party in the country -- with zero dollars from corporate PACs and plenty for flipping red seats to blue!

If you haven't given to the CDP yet, here's a few simple reasons why we're asking you today:

Help Fight Sham Recalls against Polis, Lee, Pettersen

We can't let the GOP undermine democracy with these frivolous sham recalls. Visit Our Colorado Way of Life -- the issue committee that is focused on defending our Democrats -- to learn more at www.coloradoway.org. If you want to volunteer, email [email protected]!

For Cory Gardner, "So Many Questions, So Few Answers"

Elusive Senator Cory Gardner made unpublicized stops this week in Arvada and Eagle County. They didn't go so well:

Despite again attempting to hide from his constituents, Gardner got tough questions about his record on health care, immigration, background checks, public lands and climate change. Unfortunately he was short on answers. Check out the coverage below -- and if you hear about Gardner making an unnannounced stop in your town, let us know!

Volunteer of the Week: Chris J.

Meet Chris, one of our awesome front desk volunteers! Chris has been a staple of our office for a long time as a weekly volunteer, and we're thrilled to feature her as this week's Volunteer of the Week!

Why Do You Volunteer with the CDP?
I believe in the goodness of the Democratic Party. I strongly believe with every generation, we get better as a society, and that the Democratic Party is the vehicle for our society to improve. I can't think of anything more meaningful than to contributing to that positive change, and as a retiree, I have the time!

What Would You Say to Someone Who Hasn't Volunteered Yet?
We need people to be part of the change, and we need everyone out there who shares those Democratic values to not sit on the sidelines. The more people who can get involved and partake in volunteering, the more our society can become a better one. Be the change you want to see in the world!

Rural Spotlight from Shelia: Rio Blanco

Rio Blanco County is located in northwestern Colorado. It is surrounded to the south by Garfield County, to the north by Moffat County, to the northeast by Routt County and to the west by the state of Utah. Meeker is the county seat of Rio Blanco County. Rio Blanco county was established in 1889 and is the Spanish name for the White River which runs through Rio Blanco County.

Paula Davis and Joe Livingston keep the blue wave alive in this very red county. There are approximately 280 registered Democrats, 2,640 registered Republicans and 1069 Unaffiliated voters. In 2018, 69.66% of the voters had their ballots counted. The Rio Blanco Democrats have a yearly picnic usually in May of each year.

Meeker is a largely agricultural community. Routt National Forest occupies 2.9 million acres of hiking, hunting, camping, fishing and beautiful drives in Rio Blanco. The Flat Tops Trail, 82 miles, leads you from Meeker to Yampa and beckons you to take the family on a beautiful 2.5 hours drive through a beautiful part of our amazing state. There are many events at the Rio Blanco County Fair Grounds. August 22 and August 29 continues the Meeker Summer Rodeo Series at 7pm. Then on September 6th, at 5:30pm-9:00pm, is the Meeker Mustang Makeover, the first event of its’ kind celebrating the Wild Horses of Colorado. You can watch competitions and demonstrations by 6 of the top horse trainers in our state who will compete for prizes and you can even watch Cattle dog demonstrations. There’s an auction that evening, you might even come home with a beautiful Mustang of your own, the horse not the car.
