** Growth in Mail-in Votes for Municipal Elections ([link removed])

The massive increase in voting by mail in Tuesday's elections — the first held in Virginia during the coronavirus pandemic — could be a harbinger of what's to come in November.

Results from Tuesday's municipal elections show that voting by mail was the preference of many residents who participated. VPAP's chart shows absentee votes as a percentage of all ballots cast.

On Tuesday, 92 Virginia towns elected council and mayors. Half of the town council elections lacked competition, while 12 towns had fewer candidates on the ballot than seats that need to be filled.
