For over a century, women and allies across the United States have marched, organized, and demanded that women and girls have equal rights in the US Constitution. At a time when women’s rights are under attack, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) would shield existing rights and help expand equal protections based on sex for all citizens, including women, girls, and other marginalized genders. 

85% of UN Member States have constitutions that prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex and/or gender. The United States is not one of them. As a long standing campaigner for the ERA, we say, “It’s time for that to change”.

Ratified by 38 states – the threshold required – the ERA reflects the will of the people. Yet bureaucratic obstacles and political inertia have kept it from being fully realized. President Biden has the power to break through this impasse and deliver what generations of US residents have fought for: equality under the law.
 

The ERA is more than a legal amendment. It is a testament to the humanity of women and all those whose rights have been denied because of their sex. It is a beacon of hope that tells every little girl that her aspirations are not limited by her gender; every survivor of violence that her safety and justice matter; and all of us that equality is not a privilege but a right.

Time is short, but the opportunity is clear. Please stand with us to help make this simple human right a reality and ensure that women and girls have constitutional protection.
