Indivisibles,
In just over a week, Trump will be inaugurated for a second time and MAGA
Republicans will have full control of the federal government. For those of
us who remember Trump’s first term and know what he has planned in Project
2025, we understand just how perilous of a position our democracy is in.
But not everyone sees the threat the way we do.
While we prepare for the fight ahead, we’re seeing key institutions
failing to hold Trump accountable and elite figures in positions of power
signaling that they’re more interested in appeasing him than defying him:
     * Tech CEOs are bending the knee and donating millions to Trump’s
inaugural fund. And just this week, Zuckerberg announced that Meta
would be changing their content moderation and fact-checking policies
(a change that Trump said was probably a result of his threats to jail
       Zuckerberg).^1
     * Democratic electeds are also wavering, with Rep. Tom Suozzi loudly
calling for Democrats to find compromise on parts of Trump’s agenda
and Sen. John Fetterman confirming he plans to meet with Trump at
       Mar-a-Lago.
     * Yesterday, the federal judge in Trump’s hush money case announced he
would receive no penalties or fines in his sentence, concluding a long
saga of our justice system failing to hold him accountable for his
       crimes.
We know Trump is following in the well-trodden steps of authoritarians
before him -- aiming to silence his critics and undermine his political
opposition. And with so many elites in the media, business, and even in
the Democratic Party capitulating before the real fight has even begun,
it’s more important than ever that independent, grassroots groups like
Indivisible are prepared to lead the fight against Trump 2.0.
Much of that preparation is already underway. We’re onboarding tens of
thousands of new Indivisibles and supporting new local groups all across
the country. [ [link removed] ]But we have a long fight ahead of us, and we’re counting

This isn’t the first time that leadership has had to come from the
grassroots. Some people mistakenly remember elected Democrats and public
figures rising up immediately to challenge Trump after he won in 2016. In
reality, it took time -- and a whole lot of organizing -- to get our
representatives into fighting shape. Once we built a unified front, we
were able to block some of the most egregious aspects of Trump’s agenda
and build a blue wave in 2018.
Now, it’s time for groups like ours -- independent, grassroots groups with
real community footprints who know how to reach people outside traditional
media -- to lead again. Over the coming months, we’ll be working to hold
Republicans accountable, build a backlash against MAGA’s most unpopular
policies, and push our Democratic electeds to show up as fighters. And all
of that organizing -- phone calls, emails, public demonstrations, district
office visits, and more -- will require grassroots funding.
