Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman Steve Pearce's Statement On President Trump's Call To Immediately Reopen Houses Of Worship
Albuquerque, May 22--Today President Trump announced that under CDC guidance, houses of worship--churches synagogues and mosques--are now classified as "essential." Trump is calling on all governors to open them immediately. The following is a statement from Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman Steve Pearce on today's development:
"This is something Gov. Lujan Grisham should have done a long time ago. Her decision to close or partially close churches and other places of worship was nothing less than a violation of our freedom of religion. New Mexicans, as all Americans do, have the freedom to worship, and to have been denied this is fundamentally wrong. I am pleased that President Trump has taken the action to ensure these liberties aren't continued to be taken away. The governor should reopen our houses of worship right away."
