Dear Friends,

The ongoing and tragic impact of covid-19 has had some unexpected and uplifting moments.

Clapping and singing for our wonderful NHS and all first responders. Poetry on the radio. Clear skies, uncongested roads, and nature fighting back.

Born Free’s marvellous supporters have been going above and beyond!

Angela and Martin Humphrey
[link removed] (combined age 180+) are walking 3km a day for two months to raise funds to end the atrocious live animal markets.

Thank you to all who have continued to fundraise for Born Free from home, including those taking part in our Owl 20k virtual race, and everyone who has chosen to support Born Free through the nationwide 2.6 Challenge
[link removed]. In the spirit of Colonel Sir Tom Moore, I salute you!

We all agree about one thing, we cannot revert to ‘business as usual’!

What will the new normal look like? That’s entirely up to us! Work from home more; cook fresh food more; look after each other better. Be kind.

And maybe we’ll decide to invest in nature. The jungles and savannahs, woodlands and mountains, rivers and oceans; wildlife from the largest elephant to the smallest shrew; the insects, the unsung heroes of pollination and without whom we would be doomed. We have taken nature for granted. We have brought her to the brink.

But we must spare more than a thought for our fragile world and the life-giving services it provides us with.

It’s a tough time… but maybe it is our time! Time to change what we do and chart a new course to a better future. That is what gets me out of bed in the morning!
