Support independent journalism that spurs real-world change
[Hero image]: ProPublica - Winter Member Drive. The right to know is vital. Help us protect it.

Hi Reader,

This year (and our winter member drive) is nearing its end, and I’m deeply grateful for the incredible support we’ve received from our readers so far. If you haven’t yet, I hope you’ll consider joining them with a donation of any amount. Your support fuels our in-depth journalism — work that exposes corruption, uncovers injustice and holds the powerful accountable.

ProPublica’s mission is to use the moral force of investigative journalism to spur impact. Our work has led to laws being passed, people resigning from powerful positions, victims receiving compensation and much more. We carefully track the impact of our work, and here are a few recent examples:

  • Texas Lawmakers Push for New Exceptions to State’s Strict Abortion Ban After the Deaths of Two Women
The new legislation, prompted by ProPublica’s reporting, comes after 111 Texas doctors signed a public letter urging that the ban be changed because it “does not allow us as medical professionals to do our jobs.”
  • Courts Appoint Special Counsel to Oversee Reform of New York’s Troubled Guardianship System
Judicial leaders in New York created two new oversight positions as they work to reform the state’s guardianship system. The personnel additions follow a ProPublica investigation that spotlighted lax monitoring of court-appointed guardians.
  • More States Are Allowing Child Support Payments to Reach Children
Since a ProPublica investigation found that states were seizing child support headed to families as reimbursement for the mother having received welfare, at least six states have changed their policies.

We’ve got reporters all over the country investigating stories of injustice and corruption — stories that can make a real difference for everyday people. It’s the only kind of work we do, and we’re able to sustain it because of the generosity and confidence of our readers.

Join over 60,000 ProPublicans and donate today. Help ensure that ProPublica has the resources to follow the most important stories wherever they lead and for however long it takes.

Thanks so much,

Jill Shepherd
