The nation’s attention is focused on the COVID-19 emergency, but the other crisis that is disrupting our lives — climate change — is not going away. Though we can’t come together in person this year, CCL is holding a virtual conference starting Saturday, June 13, and registration is now open.
The conference, “A Community Stronger Than COVID,” will be held on Zoom from 1 to 5 p.m. ET. In-depth seminars will also be offered from 1 to 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 14. The conference is free.
Join CCL's virtual conference to learn about the path ahead for climate change policy.
Get updated on the prospect of climate change action from members of Congress, journalists and other climate organizations.
Get trained on how to engage your member of Congress and others in your community about climate change.
Connect virtually with others from across the country who are concerned about climate change and working to get Congress to act on climate.
After the Saturday conference, there will be special workshops on Sunday, June 14. They are free but RSVP is required as they are likely to fill up.
1. Depolarizing Within presented by Braver Angels (2.5 hours) (limited to 800 people)
A surprising aspect of today’s epidemic of toxic polarization between climate advocates and climate skeptics is that much is driven by how we talk with like-minded people about those on the other side. Too often we stereotype, dismiss, or ridicule our fellow citizens who differ from us in their perspectives on climate change. How we talk among ourselves about them fuels fires that threaten the progress of climate solutions. This workshop will help you become more aware of your inner polarizer, help you learn to depolarize yourself and teach you skills for intervening in social conversations with like-minded people when those conversations veer into contempt and ridicule for people who hold other views.
2. International Climate Policy Workshop (2 hours) (limited to 150 people)
Wondering what climate policies other countries are implementing and what that means for the global society? Join us to learn what Mexico, the UK, Canada, and Small Island Developing States are doing, then gear up for a mini climate policy negotiation with the United States and the UN. CCL international regional coordinators and chapter leaders will lead the discussions.
3. Energy Innovation Act: Handling Challenging Questions (2 hours)
4.Beyond Diversity: Fostering Belonging and Inclusion at CCL (1.5 hours)
CCL welcomes everyone concerned about climate change to join us, regardless of their race, ethnicity, age, gender, or political affiliation, etc. But how do we create a culture that celebrates diversity and fosters a sense of belonging, while focusing on our mission to advance the best climate policies? This session will lead participants in understanding the benefits and challenges of diversity for the climate movement, recognize privileges and forms of racism, and introduce resources for chapters to be more effective in engaging people from underrepresented backgrounds.
We're getting together *virtually* to increase visibility on climate action
In this "Writers' Workshop" you can write letters to the editor and get trained on how to write content that inspires action on climate change. We submit our letters using CCL's media tool.
When: Wednesday, May 20 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm

Book Description: "In Who Really Feeds the World?, author and activist Vandana Shiva debunks the notion that our current food crisis is inevitable and must be addressed through industrial agriculture and genetic modification. In fact, Shiva argues, those forces are the ones responsible for the hunger problem in the first place. As an alternative, Shiva emphasizes agroecology, the knowledge and science of the complex interactions that produce our food. She succinctly and eloquently lays out the networks of people and processes that feed the world, exploring issues of diversity, the needs of small famers, the importance of seed saving, the movement toward localization, and the role of women in producing the world's food. Refuting widely held beliefs about the global food crisis, Shiva delivers a powerful manifesto calling for agricultural justice and sustainability, drawing upon her thirty years of research and accomplishments in the field."
All are welcome, regardless of whether your read or finished the book. We like a good discussion! Want to co-facilitate this discussion? Let us know if you're interested in joining organizer Tom and Jose-Luis.
When: Saturday, May 30 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm
