My name is Elias, and my role is to communicate what is happening in humanitarian emergencies, like Gaza, with you and other IRC supporters.
Across Gaza, more than one million people, half of the entire population, are experiencing catastrophic food insecurity and are at increased risk of acute malnutrition and death. The Famine Review Committee just warned that famine is likely imminent, if not already underway, in parts of northern Gaza.
This haunting picture from Gaza powerfully captures the immense hardship faced by displaced children and families as they confront the brutal realities of winter.
It also underscores the urgent need for your support as people without adequate shelter endure flooding, cold temperatures and hunger.
Families from Gaza to Ukraine to Afghanistan are in urgent need of food, warm blankets, heaters and cold weather gear. The IRC is rapidly scaling up our winter emergency response—and we need your support before the weather worsens.

Right now, every person in Gaza is in need of humanitarian assistance. But children are bearing the brunt of the war. Like my colleague Bart Witteveen, the IRC's Country Director for the occupied Palestinian territory, said:
"The situation is critical. We have days, not weeks, to take decisive action to alleviate these dire conditions. The warnings from humanitarian organizations have been clear and consistent: failure to act will lead to more preventable deaths of civilians."
The IRC continues to call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire as the only way to protect Palestinian lives, secure the release of the remaining hostages, and safely and adequately scale up humanitarian assistance and service delivery.
