Dear John,

For four years, Maine Conservation Voters' Lunch & Learn series has encouraged meaningful discussions about caring for the environment, creating policy, and community action. This year, our programs continued to spotlight various pressing issues, from uncovering the misinformation surrounding climate change to delving into Maine's pivotal role in advancing wind energy technology and sustainable agriculture. I am delighted to host these programs and hope to see you in 2025 as we continue to examine the past, present, and future of the environment in Maine and learn how to take consequential action for a sustainable, equitable future.

But before we look too far ahead, we have one more program to share this year:

Friday, December 6, 12-1 PM: PFAS in Brunswick | A Community's Fight for Clean Water

In August 2024, a malfunction at Brunswick Executive Airport's Hangar 4 caused a devastating spill of 1,450 gallons of firefighting foam concentrate (AFFF) mixed with 50,000 gallons of water. This spill released harmful PFAS chemicals into the environment, posing an immediate threat to local water supplies and public health.

Join Brunswick Representative Dan Ankeles and Sarah Woodbury, Vice President of Policy and Advocacy at Defend Our Health, for an in-depth look at this urgent issue. Following a primer on AFFF, PFAS, and their health impacts, we'll hear about the jurisdictional challenges, the stories of impacted residents, and the legislative action being proposed to address this crisis. Learn how communities are standing up to demand clean water, accountability, and justice for those affected.

Thank you for your unwavering support and curiosity this year. Your engagement has been instrumental in creating a space for learning, connection, and inspiring action. I am truly grateful for your contributions and can't wait to see what ideas we'll explore in the year ahead!
