The possibility of a thriving multiracial democracy may seem elusive, but we can't allow our hopes to be dashed. We are sharing two conversations that offer grounding and perspective for the way forward.

Believe in our power to be founders of a multiracial democracy yet to be born.

As PolicyLink CEO Michael McAfee said, our democracy has always been tough. Its evolution has always been gut-wrenching, filled with pain and losses. And there has always been a small group of people who saw us through that moment. At our Equity Summit, Nikole Hannah-Jones reminded us that when Frederick Douglass was giving abolitionist speeches in 1835, abolitionists only made up two percent of the population.

“I want you to think what a small, mighty group can do for this nation if they stay undaunted and their heads can stay unbowed,” he said.

Watch the pre-election webinar hosted by Michael and PolicyLink President Ashleigh Gardere, as they share an invitation to stand with steely resolve and a founder’s mindset to create a nation where all can thrive.

Remember that solidarity is hard, and that it is as important as ever.

PolicyLink Founder in Residence Angela Glover Blackwell reminds us that our solidarity is a critical source of strength — and it is especially when times are bleak that solidarity is hard and essential. “When we get it right, it propels our movement for democracy in service of human flourishing,” she said.

Listen to a bonus episode from the Reimagining Democracy For a Good Life podcast, recorded live from our Equity Summit. Angela connected with leaders Kent Wong, Alberto Retana, and Hillary Holley as they discussed the power of organizing and solidarity across communities, generations, and the nation.
