Welcome to another edition of FT Now! As the country grapples with how to re-open, three former GOP governors are out with a timely op-ed explaining why certain states are already ahead on the road to recovery. Tesla CEO Elon Musk is eyeing a move to Texas, which seems like a pretty good idea given the Lone Star State’s success at battling the COVID-19 crisis. Last but not least, liberal darling Andrew Cuomo is punishing all those out-of-state healthcare workers who rushed to New York's aid. Yes, really.  Read more below!

What Happened:
Former Governors Scott Walker, Haley Barbour, and Susana Martinez published an op-ed this week explaining why states led by GOP governors are better positioned for an economic comeback.

The road to recovery in a post-COVID era affects every American. As the governors write, "By enacting sound fiscal management, pro-growth policies and common-sense conservative reforms in good times, Republican governors have put their states and citizens on a speedier pathway to renewed prosperity."

Gov. Abbott: Tesla is "Genuinely Interested in Texas"
What Happened:
Speaking of red states leading the recovery...Tesla CEO Elon Musk made news this week by saying he’s so frustrated with California’s handling of the COVID-19 crisis, he’s thinking about moving his business to the Lone Star State!
Why You Should Care:
Musk’s frustration stems from his desire to get his company - and employees - back to work. California is preventing him from doing so - which is not necessarily something struggling Americans want to hear right now. No wonder Texas, under Gov. Abbott, is starting to look so attractive.
What Happens Next:
Will Tesla actually move to Texas? Only time will tell, but Governor Abbott is guiding his state to be one of the nation’s top success stories, that’s for sure!

Liberal Darling Andrew Cuomo Treats Volunteer Healthcare Workers A Another Tax Source
What Happened:
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has received no shortage of glowing media attention these last few weeks. But is anyone talking about his plan to tax out-of-state healthcare workers who volunteered their time - and risked their health - by rushing to the aid of sick New Yorkers?
Why You Should Care:
It’s a stunning example of cold-heartedness. Cuomo has already admitted he’s not stopping the tax because he needs the money to help plug his $13 billion deficit. In other words, he’s punishing these volunteers as a way to try and fix his own budget problems.
What Happens Next:
Maybe the media will hold him accountable? Then again...maybe not.
