Washington is home to dozens of federally-listed endangered and threatened species, and even more that are protected by the state.

Today is Endangered Species Day — a day to raise awareness about the Endangered Species Act and the many fish, wildlife, and plant species it aims to sustain and recover, in our state and across the country.

We know that a healthy environment supports healthy species, and the importance of sharing that message with our friends, neighbors, and leaders. Every day we work to protect endangered species such as orcas, marbled murrelets, and salmon – and we recognize that the same actions benefit people as well.

At a time when the federal government is weakening landmark environmental protections like the Endangered Species Act and the climate crisis continues to unfold, it is critically important to keep fighting to secure the future of these species and our environment.
