Beyond Matt Gaetz’s complete lack of qualifications to serve as Attorney
General, his time in the House has been overshadowed by scandals including
a federal sex trafficking investigation and a House Ethics Committee probe
that was investigating Gaetz “for sexual misconduct, illicit drug use,
misuse of state identification records, and bribery.” ^[1, 2]

The Ethics Committee was poised to vote whether to release the report
TODAY but the committee postponed their meeting following Gaetz’s
resignation from Congress. Now, House Speaker Mike Johnson is attempting
to prevent the report’s release, stating just this morning that he
“strongly request[s] that the Ethics Committee not issue the report.”

We simply cannot allow Gaetz – someone plagued by serious criminal
accusations and one of the most devout Trump loyalists of them all – to
serve as Attorney General.

Thankfully, at least four Senate Republicans have expressed their doubts
about the nomination, putting us within the margin of victory needed to

The news is deeply alarming. President-elect Trump has selected
Representative Matt Gaetz, one of his most extreme and loyal supporters,
to be our next Attorney General. As one of Trump’s most vocal and
unyielding loyalists, Gaetz has shown time and again that he prioritizes
Trump’s agenda over the rule of law. Now, Trump wants him at the helm of
the Department of Justice – the very institution meant to safeguard our
democracy.

This nomination is more than troubling. We’ve already seen what Trump
demands from his allies: blind loyalty and a willingness to target his
opponents. Gaetz’s record gives us every reason to believe he’ll do just
that, bending the DOJ to Trump’s will and putting our fundamental rights
at risk. Instead of upholding justice, Gaetz would likely weaponize the
DOJ against those Trump deems enemies.

This is not what the Attorney General’s office should stand for. We need
an Attorney General who will defend the Constitution, who will protect all
Americans, and who will act as a check – not a tool – for any president.
This is a position that must be above partisanship and personal loyalty,
and Matt Gaetz is absolutely not fit for the job.

We need to make our voices heard now. Sign our petition today, urging the
Senate to reject this dangerous nomination. Senators must understand the
risks posed by confirming Gaetz and prioritize justice over political
allegiance. They have a duty to carefully consider the qualifications and
character of every nominee, especially for a role with such sweeping
