In this short film titled “Spirited Response,” Farrell Distributing teamed up with Vermont brewers, spirit-makers and cideries to spin off the alcohol from beer to make hand sanitizer. Ryan Chaffin with Farrell Distributing says that sales of the sanitizer — which is made from alcohol that would have gone to waste — will go to help the bar and restaurant businesses being hurt by the pandemic.
Silver Eagle Beverages donates $60,000 to local food banks
Silver Eagle Beverages in Texas announced that they are making donations of $50,000 to the San Antonio Food Bank and $10,000 to the South Texas Food Bank. Since the start of the COVID-19 crisis in mid-March, the San Antonio Food Bank has more than doubled the number of households it supports. "We are very grateful for this donation from Silver Eagle Beverages that will allow us to provide 100,000 meals to our clients during these trying times,” said Alma Boubel, executive director of the South Texas Food Bank.
On-demand food delivery apps failed at carding minors for alcohol sales
Last month, California’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) found that on-demand food and beverage delivery services regularly made alcohol deliveries to minors, including to-go cocktails. The ABC investigation found that on-demand apps had a staggering 80 percent failure rate and illegally provided minors with alcohol. And, because of relaxed restrictions around alcohol takeout and delivery during COVID-19, the issue is getting worse, regulators say.
PepsiCo launched a new direct-to-consumer (DTC) effort during the pandemic to encourage e-commerce shopping. They debuted two DTC websites, PantryShop.com and Snacks.com. But big challenges remain for any brand looking to get into the DTC game and a question remains on whether it will stick for the long term.
