Today the Supreme Court is considering whether or not President Trump should be forced to surrender his tax returns, a practice that every presidential candidate has obliged by for decades.

This is the climax of a long saga of if they or won’t they. Democrats, particularly Richard Neal, have had the power to request to see Trump’s tax returns as controllers of the House Ways and Means Committee. However, it took Neal months to get around to requesting Trump’s returns.

We need leaders who recognize the perilous moment we are in. Because of Neal’s lack of urgency, we likely aren’t going to see any of Trump’s tax returns until right before election day, if at all.
