Dear John,

Welcome to “Fightin’ for WV” A 90-second overview of our work in Washington, with an insight into the latest conservative news.

Update from Congress 📝

It’s been a busy month as we work to ensure American businesses and families receive the assistance they need throughout the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this week, I hosted a Telephone Town Hall on COVID-19, joined by over 5,000 constituents. Experts answered questions on a wide range of topics from food shortages to antibody testing. Given the uncertainty in these times, I wanted to help people feel more secure and informed. You can listen to the recording here. ([link removed])

Recent events have opened our eyes to China’s aggression leading me to partake in various legislation to secure America’s interests going forward. Together, with other members of the Western Caucus, I signed a letter ([link removed]) addressed to President Trump calling for limiting America’s dependence on China and Russia for critical minerals. I also spearheaded a bipartisan call to halt Funding for China's Wuhan Institute of Virology. I supported the Processing Revival and Intrastate Meat Exemption (PRIME) Act, which will help address food shortages by loosening regulations on the meat industry. As always, I was honored to distribute ([link removed]) various grants to assist our local industries.

Republicans to Balance Partisanship On New Committee 👍

House Democrats recently formed a committee to oversee the distribution of coronavirus ([link removed]) relief funding, despite the fact that each bill contains a fail-safe within it designed for that purpose. Nancy Pelosi staffed the committee with staunch critics of the President, in what some say is an attempt to plant seeds for impeachment 2.0.

Republicans were hesitant to join, stating the committee was a waste of taxpayer money and another way for the left to criticize the administration. But on Thursday, House majority leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy appointed Rep. Steve Scalise as the lead member of the House GOP to serve on the committee. Together with Reps. Jim Jordan, Blaine Luetkemeyer, Jackie Walorski and Mark Green, they will be faced with the task of curtailing partisan bias and voicing the truth.

Just for Smiles 😊

President Donald Trump recently launched the “America Works Together” campaign to highlight the efforts of everyday Americans during the coronavirus pandemic. We have many such heroes right here in West Virginia, so I took a moment to recognize them. (The Journal) ([link removed])
