*Since RootsAction has been promoting Mark Gamba as a candidate for Congress worthy of support from around the nation, he's been gaining ground.* Gamba has the backing of RootsAction, Our Revolution, Brand New Congress, Sunrise Movement PDX, Oregon Single Payer Advocates, Independents for Progressive Action, Bernie PDX, Women for Justice, the Oregon Working Families Party, 350 Salem Climate Action, the Blue America PAC, the Salem Democratic Socialists of America, the Oregon Progressive Party, and various elected state and local politicians. *This is not your typical primary challenger.*

Gamba is challenging the Trump-leaning Democratic incumbent Kurt Schrader in Oregon's Fifth District.

Mark Gamba is the mayor of Milwaukie, Oregon. As he runs for Congress, his platform includes a *Green New Deal, Medicare for All, tuition-free public college,* a license requirement for guns, a ban on assault weapons and large magazines, increased taxes on corporations and the ultra-rich, and numerous other concrete progressive proposals clearly spelled out on his website.

Remarkably, Gamba even proposes that the United States obey international laws and *end its wars*. He recommends a major shift of resources out of war profiteering and into human and environmental needs.

Gamba connects the issues by pointing out that "the U.S. military is the largest organized polluter in the world," and noting that investing in diplomacy saves money (as well as lives).

* The reason Gamba's district needed a progressive challenger is incumbent Democrat Kurt Schrader.*

During 2017 and 2018, one-third of Schrader's House votes were aligned with Trump. And like Trump, he's not a defender of young Dreamers who have grown up undocumented in this country; he was one of a few dozen House Democrats to oppose the 2010 Dream Act.

*Only four House Democrats have a lower lifetime environmental score than Schrader, who also opposes Medicare for All.*

Schrader's campaign website offers *no platform whatsoever*, but does claim some "accomplishments," including his accurate claim to have frequently voted with Republicans, and various claims to have produced jobs through military spending -- a clearly less effective means of creating jobs than other types of federal spending.

*Let's put this district, which backed Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primary, into the hands of someone who will represent it better.*
