Dear friend,

I want to take a moment to say Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers today, especially those who have to celebrate away from their children and loved ones this year.

If your family is like mine, this is a holiday when we usually gather together for lunch with my Mom and share stories and memories, recounting how she has always been the backbone of our family. But the current health concerns have caused us to change our lives and change our traditions - and this year, many of us have to take up the especially hard task of celebrating Mom without being with her today.

A good mother can be a lot of things and described in so many different ways, but one strong characteristic of all mothers everywhere is personal sacrifices for those they love. And although mothers deserve constant appreciation, this year, mothers around the world have had to change their lives in order to help their families and children. Our mothers have become our teachers, our entertainers, and our confidants all while they may be working full-time jobs or taking care of themselves and other family members.

Yes, this year our celebrations may look different, but the most important thing is that our mothers know we appreciate and love them - today and every day.

I hope you will join me today in applauding mothers everywhere as they guide their families and loved ones through this very challenging time. And as we celebrate Mother's Day in this new reality, let us also draw on a mother's example of sacrifice to do what we can, when we can, for the common good and to recognize that we are all in this together.
