Neighbors,

Each year on Mother's Day, we take a little time to recognize all that mothers contribute to our families and our communities every day of the year. Amid our current crisis, I want to acknowledge the Ward 5 mothers who are on the front lines of our current health crisis and continue to serve our community as essential employees.

One such Ward 5 mother, is Meedie Bardonille, RN, PCCN-K. Nurse Bardonille serves as the Nursing Director of Surgical Oncology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where she leads a team of over 60 healthcare professionals as they serve District residents battling cancer. This vulnerable population relies on our nurses and health care workers as they do their best to stay strong and healthy during this pandemic and beyond. In addition to her work helping patients in a clinical role, she also serves her city as chair of the DC Board of Nursing, which supports and advises DC Health on the nursing profession. Below she is pictured with her son, Anthony.
On behalf of all the residents of DC, I extend my gratitude to Nurse Bardonille and all essential workers and to each and every mother, I wish you a Happy Mother's Day.

In service,
