   Friend,
People in U.S. prisons and jails are often forced to do incredibly
dangerous jobs, from fighting wildfires in California to removing lead
   paint in New York.
Yet they are explicitly excluded from many workplace safety and labor laws
that protect nearly all U.S. workers.
Does that seem just to you? [ [link removed] ]Join Vera in calling for an end to labor
   exploitation behind bars.
Workplace safety laws and benefits often explicitly exclude correctional
facilities, making it nearly impossible for incarcerated workers to
challenge unsafe conditions or to receive medical care for conditions
   caused by their employment.
People working in prison rarely have a say in what type of job they
perform, leaving them vulnerable to race, gender, and disability
   discrimination.

   people.
