The media is focusing on all the wrong stories when it comes to Trump

John,

We’re weeks away from Election Day, and the mainstream media still hasn’t figured out how to cover Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

Recently, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell used his opening monologue to issue a stark warning:

“It’s 2016 all over again. The same mistakes are being made. I have never seen an industry slower at learning from its own mistakes than the American news business.”

We’ll explain more in a moment, but first—if you believe in COURIER’s factual, unbiased reporting, can you chip in $25 to help us continue our work?

As Election Day nears, legacy media is treating Trump like any other candidate, focusing on poll numbers and strategy shifts, with little attention given to his increasingly fascist behavior and the looming threat of another far-right attempt to steal the election if Trump loses.

O’Donnell is right—the media has the power to tell the truth about Trump and the dangerous threat he poses to democracy.

It’s not like Trump isn’t giving them plenty of material.

In recent weeks, he’s called for the military to "wipe out" his political enemies, urged law enforcement to give shoplifters a purge-inspired “very rough hour,” and told rally attendees that a heckler should be “knocked around.” He’s demanded that media outlets like CBS lose their licenses and advocated for jailing those he accuses of “election interference”—essentially anyone who tries to ensure that our elections are free and fair.

And the media has also failed to give Kamala Harris the credit she deserves for running a campaign that defends democratic norms, the rule of law, and pushes for unity instead of hate.

These are the exact same mistakes the media made in 2016. We can’t let them keep getting away with it.

Here’s the good news: COURIER was founded for this moment. We saw what happened in 2016, and we want to make sure it never happens again.
