We’ve Been Working on the Railroad! [ [link removed] ]

"We’ve Been Working on the Railroad!" shares a rarely told story of the women who kept the country rolling and celebrates the history of women on the railroad. Join Mandy Lockaby, a female freight conductor for BNSF Railway, as these women are brought back to life from the pages of history and Mandy shares her own experiences of life on the rail.
*Presenter:* Mandy Lockaby has worked for BNSF as a conductor since 2013. Mandy serves on the executive board for the Slaton Harvey House where she gets to share her love for the railroad with some of the most amazing people, working together to preserve an important part of West Texas railroad history.

Buttermilk Pie: A Slice of Black Culinary Heritage [ [link removed] ]

Discover how food history plays an important role in telling the story of the enslaved experience in Texas. Ask questions and learn a new recipe to add to your Thanksgiving meal! In partnership with the Levi Jordan Plantation State Historic Site [ [link removed] ] and the Varner-Hogg Plantation State Historic Site [ [link removed] ], join food historian and chef Natalie Wright-Moore Clark as she demonstrates how to make a buttermilk pie and traces the recipe’s history in the African American community. Pull up a chair and join us as we uncover connections between food and the real stories of Texans throughout our state’s history.
*Presenters:* Natalie Wright-Moore Clark, food historian, chef, and graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the International Wine Guild in Colorado. Also presenting are site staff from Levi Jordan Plantation SHS and Varner-Hogg Plantation SHS.

Join us as we explore the rich holiday traditions and everyday stories that made the Goodnight Ranch a true home for the pioneers of the Texas Panhandle.
