Dear Resident

I just wanted to get in touch with you ahead of the 75th anniversary of VE Day tomorrow. It seems quite poignant that 75 years ago our parents, grandparents and great grandparents were celebrating the end of a war. Yet now we are in the middle of a battle with another deadly enemy, but this time an invisible one.

We are definitely in unprecedented times and life is not normal - I trust you and your family are keeping safe and well. I know it has not been easy for anyone but I am convinced that the last few weeks have brought out the very best in everyone.

I must pay tribute to every single NHS worker - you are all amazing. Our care workers also need huge recognition. My father was in a Nursing Home for over seven years and I saw first hand the wonderful and loving care provided and the dedication of the care workers, and that was without the added stress of COVID-19.

Let’s also thank our bin men, posties, delivery men, shop assistants, teachers, school staff, emergency services and every other worker who has done so much to keep our services working.

Please do try to enjoy the 75th anniversary of VE Day, remembering the sacrifices our country had made on the run up to the end of the war, knowing we will defeat COVID-19 and be able the celebrate once again.

My very best wishes to you and your family.

P.S. I have a created a dedicated page on my website to COVID-19, where you can access help and advice whether as an individual or a business!

COVID-19 SUPPORT

Working hard for our community....
  • Lobbied Erewash Borough Council asking for the Government Discretionary Coronavirus Fund it is administering to be used to support our local manufacturers intrinsically linked to the retail industry such as our local upholstery trade.

  • Presented a petition to Parliament supported by over 2000 people to stop the closure of Ladycross House Care Home in Sandiacre

  • Supporting Sandiacre residents in their campaign to ensure full democratic participation in the planning process with respect to a planning application on Longmoor Lane

Thank You to...

  • Erewash Voluntary Action for supporting our vulnerable residents during these difficult times.

  • Sandiacre Mutual Aid for not only supporting local residents who need to shield but also your amazing support for all the residents made homeless as the result of the Springfield Mill fire.

  • Treetops Hospice Care for your wonderful work supporting those approaching the end of their life.

  • Excel Print for donating paper to schools, care homes and foster carers - paper is still available and you can contact the team at [email protected] for further details.

  • Derbyshire Autism for their amazing efforts supporting people in our community.

Virtual days out!

We may have the cleanest home ever, a weed free garden, we may have walked every street within one hour of our home, so what else is there to do?

Over the last few weeks I’ve noticed some of our regular activities or days out have become virtual!

For those who have found a new passion for gardening, the RHS website www.rhs.org.uk has some great videos of how to do a variety of garden tasks.

You can now make virtual visits to National Trust and English Heritage properties and recently I had a virtual tour around Cambridge Botanical Gardens - and you can make these visits whatever the weather!

Please do let me know what unusual activities you have discovered in these challenging times - just email me at [email protected]

Congratulations to...
  • Colonel Tom on this 100th Birthday and for raising over £30 million by walking 100 laps around his garden - absolutely amazing!!!

  • Canaan Trust and its 25th Anniversary - I’m so disappointed this year’s Sleep Out had to be cancelled due to ‘lockdown’ - I’m sure next year’s will be bigger and better!

Office update

In accordance with Government guidance, all my office staff are working from home to ensure they can stay at home, protect our NHS and save lives. But this has not stopped us working to support you - my office can still be contacted by email at [email protected] or by telephoning 0115 930 0521.

Due to the volume of work, I am operating a triage system rather than responding in a chronological way. So please do be patient if you are waiting for a response, but I’m sure you’ll understand that there needs to be a priority system in these unprecedented times.
