Live lobbying prep with
Dr. Danny Richter

CCL volunteers are not heading to Washington this June, but they will still lobby congressional offices—this time virtually. Talk to your chapter leader or congressional liaison if you’d like to participate in a lobbying meeting.

To help you prepare, we’re offering two live training sessions with CCL’s Vice President of Government Affairs, Danny Richter. On May 28, Danny will explain our primary and supporting asks for Congress, and he’ll offer guidance for lobby teams as they plan their meetings. On June 11, Danny will give up-to-date insights on the dynamics in Congress and how that will play into our meetings. Find all the details here, and plan to join us!

If you are new to CCL and want to lobby, you’ll also need to take the Climate Advocate Training. Live sessions will be held at 8 p.m. ET on May 20 and at 1 p.m. ET on June 3. Click here for either session or to watch a recording of the training.

If you want to go deeper, like practicing effective communication skills or reviewing the ins and outs of the policy we support, check out these live training sessions happening on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between now and the conference.

Other news this week:

Hang out with CCL’s Karina Ramirez: CCL’s Diversity Outreach Manager, Karina Ramirez, is next up on our weekly sessions with CCL staffers. Based in West Palm Beach, Florida, Karina also leads our Spanish Language Action Team. Get to know Karina and the work she does a little better during our hangout this Friday at noon. Grab a brown bag lunch or cup of coffee and join in. Details and upcoming hangouts here.

Learning the levers: Appalachia Regional Coordinator Jon Clark led a Five Levers Organizing Workshop (FLOW) over the weekend for volunteers in his region. The workshop, designed by Field Development Director Elli Sparks, orients volunteers to the five levers of political will and gives them ideas about where to put their skills to work. Read more.

If you have a little time: Get ready to vote. It’s important that we who care about climate change make our voices heard at the polls. Visit cclusa.org/vote to register to vote, request a ballot by mail, and sign up for election reminders. Then prompt your friends to prepare to vote by sharing that link on your social media or via email.

If you have more time: Attend CCL’s May monthly meeting this Saturday, May 9, at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT. Join hundreds of other CCL chapters across the country as we all dial in to hear updates from staff and listen to special guest Dr. Natasha DeJarnett talk about health and climate. Connect from your computer at cclusa.org/meeting.

You can also find your nearest CCL chapter to take action in your community, or join one of CCL’s national online Action Teams to take action on specific topics like agriculture, health, faith, and more. Browse CCL Community’s Event Calendar to find upcoming events, trainings, and calls you can join.

Media: CCL Knoxville gets TV coverage

Earlier this year, CCL volunteers in Knoxville, Tennessee, generated some great news coverage of their upcoming regional conference. Watch the segment, or read the full story of their work.

CCL volunteers are regularly activating the “five levers” of political will in their communities. If you’d like to learn more about how to get CCL in the local news like these volunteers did, watch or read this training on “Generating News Coverage.”

Connecting in the coal country of Wyoming: In a state dependent on extractive industries, you might not expect to find a receptive audience for climate solutions, but CCL Mountain West Regional Coordinator Bill Barron’s tour of towns throughout Wyoming drew people who left these events impressed with CCL’s approach and policy.
